Result Sets
Result sets allow you to calculate results for any group of projects or consolidation nodes from a single hierarchy, including a full corporate consolidation. They are also used to generate 'what if' scenarios using sensitivities. The results of these calculations are stored in the Planning Space tenant, and reports can be generated at any time.
Result sets are managed in the Calculate & Analyze workspace. You can create a result set by clicking the Add button in the Home tab on the ribbon. Result sets can be configured to contain settings such as weightings and variable sensitivities.
For version 16.5 Update 14 and later: A Refresh button has been added to the Home tab on the ribbon. This reloads from database the content of the Result Sets explorer. You may need to use this if Result Set data has been modified by the Economics Calculation API while you are working, because those changes are not automatically synchronized with the Planning Space application.
Standard Result Set
Each result set consists of a number of Runs (there must be at least one). Runs are based on the same inputs to which different settings, such as alternative prices or sensitivities, may be applied.
Result sets and Runs are displayed in the Result Sets Explorer from where you can open and inspect any node, and generate reports. If you double-click a result set node it will open inside a tab in the document pane. To close a result set, click the X button in its tab label. Clicking the down-arrow button in the top right corner of the document pane shows the list of all opened documents; if you select a document here, its tab content will be displayed
Sensitivity Result Set
For version 16.5 Update 1 and later: The Sensitivity Result Set functions implement a sensitivity engine for Planning Space Economics. The results are displayed in tornado and spider diagrams, and can be downloaded as CSV data.
Result Sets Explorer: Moving and copying result sets and folders
Result sets can be organized into folders and sub-folders. To add a folder, click on any existing folder and then use the Add button on the ribbon, or in the context menu. Folder names are not unique, unlike for result set names.
You can move single result sets by clicking the result set name, select Cut in the context menu, then click the destination folder and select Paste in the context menu. To copy a single result set, use the Copy action, followed by Paste; result set names must be unique so you will be prompted for a new name. When you copy a result set, any calculated run data is not copied.
You can move a folder and all of its contents by using the Cut action in the folder's context menu. If the destination folder has a folder of the same name then you will be prompted for a new name.
For version 16.5 Update 24 and later: Result set folders can be copied and pasted. Use the Copy action in the folder's context menu.
Because result set names cannot be repeated, the Paste Result Set Folder As dialog has the fields Prefix and Suffix which will be added to the result set names. If neither of these are specified (and whenever there is still a name clash) then numerical suffixes will be added to result set names automatically.
There is also an option Copy Data to include calculated run data in the copy (the default is no copy).
Folder permissions
Folder permissions are available in version 16.5 Update 15 and later
Security permissions can be applied to folders in the Result Sets explorer. The permissions control user's access to view, use or modify the result sets and/or folders inside.
The permissions of the parent folder will be applied to new child nodes (folder or Result Set) that are added to the folder. You can use this feature to set a default permission setting for Result Sets, which new Result Sets will automatically inherit.
To manage the permissions for a folder, select it and click the Permissions button in the Home tab on the ribbon, or right-click and select Permissions.
Permissions can be specified for users or workgroups.
The permissions changes that you make on one node can be automatically applied to other Result Set nodes, using the Apply changes to selector. The options are:
- This node and all child nodes
- All child nodes
- This node only
- This node and all parent nodes
- This node and all child and parent nodes
